Our Vienna GMAT instructor has over 11 years of teaching experience as a GMAT instructor and also as a corporate trainer in a wide variety of Business & Quality Management courses, having trained students & professionals in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria & India. He holds an engineering degree from the top-most engineering institute of India, IIT Kharagpur. He has developed special strategies to solve problems which his students have found extremely useful and pecializes in helping students identify and capitalize on their strengths, as well as developing strategies to work upon their weaknesses. He believes that cracking GMAT needs a perseverance with realistic planning and focused hard work in the right direction.

GMAT Verbal Grammar Quick Tip - Gerund & Infinitive - Vienna

Any word may be used as an attributive (adjective) if placed before a noun. A gerund may be used this way (called a gerundive); its form is identical with the present participle, but the meaning will be different:

A building reputation - participle (a reputation that is building)

Some building blocks - gerund (blocks for building with)

A working appliance - participle (an appliance that works)

Working papers - gerund (papers which allow you to work)

The infinitive form of a verb has a ``to'' proceeding it:

to + verb

The infinitive form may be used in this function:

To err is human, to forgive, divine.

(= Error is human, forgiveness, divine.)

Care must be taken not to use a mixture of the two forms:
