The Stern School of Business is located between Manhattan's Midtown and Financial District. NYU's Business School is ideally located for students looking to enter the corporate headquarters based in Manhattan, in addition to the name brand banking and consulting firms that are based in New York City.
Stern's historical Finance department is the school's greatest asset. However, the school has recently become a greater stronghold for those interested in Entrepreneurship and Media/Entertainment. Along with a range of concentrations, Stern offers unique electives, such as Independent Film Investing in Microfinance Structure.
Depending on a student's focus, Stern offers cross registration with relevant courses at the Real Estate Institute and the Tisch School of the Arts.
First year students will build a powerful foundation as they fulfill required courses in all areas of business fundamentals. During the second year, students can choose between exploring electives while earning a General Management MBA, or master three specializations (such as Finance, Marketing, Real Estate, etc.).
The Berkeley Center for Entrepreneurial Studies serves as a major resource for students hoping to start their own business. The center hosts conferences, holds competitions, and offers a mentoring program for green entrepreneurs.
The average GMAT score for full-time students in the class of 2014 was 719, with 80% of full-time students scoring between 670 and 760.
Showing the admissions committee that Stern is really where you want to be- and providing convincing reasons why this is the case- is important. In your Stern application, take particular note of one essay question which specifically asks you to describe what interactions you have had with the "Stern community" and what you have done to learn more about the program. If you apply to Stern, also do not discount the importance of teamwork in your message. Stern seems to be most impressed well-grounded people who have excelled in past jobs and leadership roles.
Interviews are by invitation only and are conducted in-person in New York City.
Stern requires two recommendations with each MBA application. The Admissions Committee strongly prefers recommendations from a professional setting, as opposed to academic recommendations. NYU requires that one of your recommendations come from a current supervisor or manager. If for some reason you cannot acquire a recommendation from your current employer, you will need to provide an explanation for this.
As with most MBA programs, Stern does not recommend receiving recommendations from family members or friends.
