When you prepare for a case interview, you are not only increasing your odds of landing a lucrative consulting assignment, you are also training your brain to analyze problems systematically and innovatively.

Case interview questions tend to coalesce around specific topics relating to a firm's outlook, such as operational concerns, government regulation, or its market share in relation to the market's size. They also often include questions of logic and reasoning to test your ability to find solutions no matter what may be constraining your options.

Case interviews force candidates to think under pressure creatively within a time constraint. Candidates'  thought processes are evaluated for efficiency, effectiveness and the profundity of their thought process. More generally, the communication abilities and overall knowledge of the candidates are scrutinized as well. To this end, proactive listening is just as important as articulately speaking. Without  appreciating the subtleties of effective communication, it is impossible for a candidate to present oneself as a problem solver. Getting an answer right is only the first step.
